How to Read Our Strain Badges: Beginner-Friendly, Mold Tolerant and More

Posted On 10/29/2026 By QCS
Short answer: The “At a glance” badges on each strain page summarise what we know about a strain: how forgiving it is, when it finishes, how it handles damp weather and what has been tested. They are based on the strain’s category, specs and description, plus grower reports and test results where we have them. They are guidance, not guarantees: your site, climate and care matter as much as the genetics.

Cannabis seed shoppers keep asking the same question: how hard will this strain be to grow? We do not use a single difficulty score, because difficulty depends on your space, your climate and your experience. Instead, each strain page carries a short row of plain-language badges. This page explains what each one means and what it does not.

What makes a strain harder to grow

  • Height and stretch. Tall strains need more space, support and training.
  • Long flowering time. The longer a plant takes to finish, the more exposed it is to cold and rain outdoors.
  • Humidity. Dense buds in damp weather raise the risk of mold, so airflow and site choice matter.
  • Feeding and training. Some strains reward careful feeding and training and punish mistakes.

Questions we hear

What does the Beginner-friendly badge mean on a cannabis strain?

It marks strains suited to a first or early grow: forgiving, easy-going strains from the QCS beginner selection or described as easy to grow.

Is there an Easy, Medium and Advanced rating?

QCS does not use a single difficulty score. Strain pages show plain-language badges such as Beginner-friendly and Moderate difficulty, based on the strain’s category, specs and description.

Does Mold tolerant mean mold proof?

No. Mold tolerant means less prone to mold and slower to be affected. No strain is 100% mold resistant, so airflow and site choice still matter.

What is the difference between Germination-tested and Lab-tested germination?

Germination-tested means the strain was tested in Quebec, Canada, with results of 98 to 100%. Lab-tested germination means third-party batch results from the production partner AlphaType are also available.
