AlphaType is a cannabis genetics company that develops F1 hybrid cultivars using a biobank-based, data-driven breeding program rather than traditional selection alone.

Where is AlphaType based?

AlphaType lists operations in Seattle, Washington (USA), Basel (Switzerland) and Bogotá, Colombia.

How does AlphaType develop its genetics?

AlphaType maintains a biobank called Alexandria, with data from over 1,500 coded, open-source cultivars, and applies statistical clustering and cultivar-variance analysis to identify superior candidates for its F1 hybrids.

Are the strains on this page AlphaType's current lineup?

Not necessarily. AlphaType changes its own menu of genetics every year, so some strains QCS carries here may no longer be part of AlphaType's current catalog, even though the seeds remain available from QCS while supplies last.

Does AlphaType publish lab testing or COAs for its genetics?

AlphaType tests every production batch for germination and intersex (hermie) rate and reports the results to QCS batch by batch; QCS publishes them on its seed testing page, and every batch published there passed at 98% or 100% germination, with each strain’s own batch results listed. Cannabinoid and terpene certificates of analysis for these batches are in progress and not yet published, so QCS does not present potency numbers as AlphaType-certified lab results.

Where can I see THC/CBD, flowering time and yield for a strain?

Each product listed on this page shows its own typical genetics, cannabinoid range, flowering time and yield, as reported by QCS based on grow data for that specific strain.

Is AlphaType affiliated with Quebec Cannabis Seeds?

No. QCS is an independent, Quebec-based seed bank. AlphaType is one of the outside genetics sources QCS carries seeds from; it is not owned by or formally affiliated with QCS.

Does QCS choose which genetics AlphaType breeds for this collection?

Yes, for some of the strains here. QCS selects the parent genetics and the traits it wants, and AlphaType carries out the breeding to those specifications, rather than QCS simply reselling whatever is on AlphaType's general public menu.

Laws change, so check the current law in Maryland before you germinate seeds. This is general information, not legal advice. Compare all 50 states in our US guide.

This page is for Maryland adults who want to grow a small number of plants at home, which the state has allowed since adult-use cannabis became legal in July 2023. It covers the household plant limit and how the humid Chesapeake climate shapes the outdoor season.

Is it legal to grow cannabis in Maryland?

As of October 2026, adult-use cannabis is legal in Maryland, approved by voters in 2022 and in effect since July 2023. Adults 21 and over may grow up to 2 plants per household. Plants must be kept out of public view, and growers must take reasonable precautions to keep them away from anyone under 21. Registered medical patients may grow up to 4 plants per household.

Buying cannabis seeds online in Maryland: the federal rules

Under the federal law in force today (the 2018 Farm Bill), cannabis seeds with no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC have been treated as hemp, as the DEA said in informal letters in 2022. A new federal hemp definition takes effect on December 11, 2026, unless Congress delays it again, and it excludes viable seeds from plants above 0.3% total THC. Regulators have not yet said how they will apply it to seeds. Once a seed germinates, state law decides whether you may grow it. Read the federal section of our US guide.

Growing season and climate in Maryland

Maryland's outdoor season is long by northeastern standards, especially on the Eastern Shore and around the Chesapeake Bay, where frost usually holds off until late October. Summers are hot and very humid, and muggy August and September nights are hard on dense flowers. The western panhandle, in the Appalachian highlands around Garrett County, is cooler and sees frost several weeks earlier. Late-season tropical storms can bring heavy rain to the whole state in September.

With only two plants allowed, a mold-tolerant variety like Quebec Cookies for the long, humid lowland season or an early finisher that comes down before fall storms makes each plant count.

Quebec Cookies – bred by QCS, 70% sativa, 19–25% THC, ready late October outdoors, tolerant of common pests and mold
Super Critical – bred by QCS, 60% indica, ready late September to early October outdoors
Early Hash Skunk – balanced hybrid, about 21% THC, ready in September outdoors

Harvest dates and THC figures are ranges from our strain pages, not promises: results depend on the grower, the method and the season’s weather.
