These figures are ranges, not promises. Flowering time, harvest date and yield vary depending on growing conditions: the grower, the method and the season's weather. "Mold resistant" means mold tolerant: less prone to mold and slower to be affected. No strain is 100% mold resistant. How we set these numbers →

About M 39

Genetics & strain profile

M 39 — M-39 — was released by one of the oldest, now retired, seed banks in Holland, and its indica-dominant genetics and ease of growth made this hardy strain a staple for Canadian growers from Quebec to Ontario and beyond through the 1980s and 1990s; it was the weed a generation grew up on. Our feminized version is bred by Quebec Cannabis Seeds with 18.5% THC, and it carries our bred by QCS and beginner-friendly badges. 15 reviews average 4.6 out of 5, mostly from people who remember it: “still one of the best end products to this day — this is the real deal”, “if you’re old enough to say the shop weed is not as good as what we got in the 80s… this is”, “brings me back to the 80s work — the best treats around in the day”. The honest notes: it is an F2, so you will see three phenotypes — one buyer expected a uniform F1 and docked a star for it — and one grower lost seeds to the paper-towel method, which we do not recommend (we replaced them). Our seeds are guaranteed.

How M 39 grows

It grows quickly, with good branching and an easy-to-trim finish, and flowers in just 39 to 43 days — the shortest flowering time in the catalogue — with 350 to 450 g/m² indoors. It is discreet and low to the ground, a “very stout plant” that one reviewer grows to 48 inches and says “can take any climate as far as I can tell”; it copes with the short seasons and harsh conditions of northern regions, with about 500 g per plant outdoors and an early to mid-October harvest. Because it is an F2, expect three different phenotypes in a pack — a Skunk, a Northern Lights and the classic M-39 — which makes it a good strain for phenotype hunting and keeping a mother of the one you like. Germinate it by soaking 12 to 24 hours and planting directly in warm, barely damp soil rather than in paper towel, which has cost more than one grower a seed. Feed lightly; it is an old-school plant that does not want much.

Taste, aroma and effect

An old-school flavour: skunky, sweet and a little hashy, “bonne odeur malade” in a Quebec grower’s words, without the dessert sweetness of modern strains. The high is clean, with a relaxing body buzz — the straightforward, happy indica effect of the era, which is why reviewers who grew up on it still rate it above most of what they can buy — and at 18.5% THC it is manageable for an evening. For its two parent lines, see Skunk No.1 and Northern Lights, or the cross of the two, Northern Lights x Skunk; for other quick, old-school Quebec strains, Quebec Early Bud and Quebec Gold 2.0.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does M 39 take to flower?

39 to 43 days — the shortest in our catalogue. Outdoors it is typically ready in early to mid-October.

How much does M 39 yield?

350 to 450 g/m² indoors and about 500 g per plant outdoors.

How strong is M 39?

18.5% THC — a clean, manageable old-school high.

Is M 39 easy to grow?

Yes. It is stout, low and hardy, copes with northern conditions, and carries our beginner badge.

Why do my M 39 plants look different from each other?

It is an F2, so a pack gives three phenotypes: a Skunk, a Northern Lights and the classic M-39. Keep a mother of the one you like.

How should I germinate M 39?

Soak 12 to 24 hours, then plant directly in warm, barely damp soil. We do not recommend the paper-towel method; one grower lost seeds to it and we replaced them.

Old-school skunky sweetness with a hashy edge.

What are the parents of M 39?

It is an F2 from Skunk No.1 and Northern Lights lineage.

Bought thinking the were f1 fem.not f2’s but I’ve been VERY happy with this sites customer service, (beam me up!), and the genetics I’ve bought (5-7 strains), more than HAPPY!

Very good customer service had an issue with my germination which was my own fault they don't recommend the paper towel method, but the one that did pop is coming along very vigorously. Can't wait for dhe old school M39 i so enjoyed as a teen in the mid 2000's. They also told me I would be getting new seeds, very kind. Thank you QCS! You are my go to from here on out.

M 39 is a VERY stout plant. It can take any climate as far as I can tell. If you’re old enough to say that the shop weed is not as good as what we got in the 80’s and can’t find anything that is… This is. If you grow this 48” plant and grow it out right. You will hear the same comments I have. It’s way way better than most strains. It’s about the only old school Dutch seed out there that will take you back and allow you to show others what you were telling them about. The green bud you got back in the day. It’s a pain to harvest. It’s yield is low. If you do grow it you’ll have something spectacular. This is the “Mean Green”. It was 94 F the day I cut em down here. It may respond better in higher temps potency wise. Given the breaded I kinda doubt it. This is the best end product I have found anywhere. I’m 57 years old. Get after it old timers. Happy growing everyone!
