Buying cannabis seeds online in Washington: the federal rules

Under the federal law in force today (the 2018 Farm Bill), cannabis seeds with no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC have been treated as hemp, as the DEA said in informal letters in 2022. A new federal hemp definition takes effect on December 11, 2026, unless Congress delays it again, and it excludes viable seeds from plants above 0.3% total THC. Regulators have not yet said how they will apply it to seeds. Once a seed germinates, state law decides whether you may grow it. Read the federal section of our US guide.

Growing season and climate in Washington

For authorized patients, west of the Cascades the summers are mild and fairly dry, but fall rain often returns in late September or October, making late flowering risky. East of the mountains, the Columbia Basin and nearby valleys have hot, dry, sunny summers and cool nights, though frost can arrive by early October. Higher ground in the northeast has a shorter season still. Plants that finish by late September or early October suit most of the state.

These picks finish before the western fall rains and the eastern frosts, and the autoflower suits small indoor patient grows.

Harvest dates and THC figures are ranges from our strain pages, not promises: results depend on the grower, the method and the season’s weather.
