These figures are ranges, not promises. Flowering time, harvest date and yield vary depending on growing conditions: the grower, the method and the season's weather. "Mold resistant" means mold tolerant: less prone to mold and slower to be affected. No strain is 100% mold resistant. How we set these numbers →
Taste & Aroma Profile
The aroma is grape and berry with sweet, earthy undertones — growers describe “skunky grapes” and a “sour apple grape smell” — and the taste is fruity and sweet with a peppery finish.
About Granddaddy Purple
Genetics & strain profile
Granddaddy Purple — GDP — was introduced by breeder Ken Estes in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2003, a cross of Purple Urkle and Big Bud: grape flavour and colour from the first, size and yield from the second. It became the reference purple strain of the medical era. Our Granddaddy Purple feminized seeds are our own cut of that lineage: a mostly indica hybrid with 25% THC, very little CBD, plenty of resin, and a plant that is easy enough for new growers.
Strain names are not protected, so GDP from another seed bank is a different plant. Everything on this page describes our own seeds.
How Granddaddy Purple grows
We rate Granddaddy Purple easy. It resists many common pests and diseases, stays a manageable, bushy size and needs little training. Indoors it flowers in 65 to 70 days and typically gives 450 to 500 g/m²; one grower on this page harvested 536 g from a single plant under a 1500 W LED. Outdoors it is typically ready in October, with 600 to 700 g per plant in good conditions — a Quebec grower reported 1,300 g from two plants. The dense buds want airflow in a wet fall.
Getting the purple: colour is not guaranteed. It depends on the phenotype, on cool night temperatures (low teens °C) in the last two to three weeks of flower, and on keeping nitrogen low in bloom. Some plants stay green no matter what, and they are just as strong and just as grape-flavoured. Outdoors, cool September and October nights do the work for you.
Taste, aroma and effect
The aroma is grape and berry with sweet, earthy undertones — growers describe “skunky grapes” and a “sour apple grape smell” — and the taste is fruity and sweet with a peppery finish. The effect starts with a euphoric buzz that lifts the mood, then settles into deep, heavy relaxation in the body. At 25% THC it is strong and best kept for evenings, unwinding and sleep.

People giving low stars for having no purple is crazy! If you have too much nitrogen in your grow you get no purple also it depends on pheno types.. sometimes you just don't get the color. Also there's dropping temps in low 60s at night that helps being out purples etc. You can't just grow a plant and expect purples. It takes work and a bit of luck! Ugh

Okay for all those saying no purple do you realize how cannabis seeds work? Every plant is different could be dozens to hundreds of phenotypes so finding that pictured plant takes effort you probably have to plant at least 50-100 and find that phenotype!! Giving low stars ⭐️ for no purple is silly

Very disappointed, there is no purple at all, it has been flowering for 10 weeks, and the pruning has been cultivated twice, there is no purple at all, it is completely different from the picture
