These figures are ranges, not promises. Flowering time, harvest date and yield vary depending on growing conditions: the grower, the method and the season's weather. "Mold resistant" means mold tolerant: less prone to mold and slower to be affected. No strain is 100% mold resistant. How we set these numbers →

About Northern Lights
Genetics & strain profile
Northern Lights is one of the oldest names in cannabis. It descends from Afghani indica plants selected in the Pacific Northwest in the late 1970s and stabilized in the Netherlands in the 1980s, where it won a string of Cannabis Cups and became the parent of hundreds of crosses. Our Northern Lights feminized seeds are bred by Quebec Cannabis Seeds to bring out the indica side — short, bushy and fast — while keeping the classic earthy-pine aroma and flavour. It is an indica-dominant hybrid with 15% THC or more and low CBD, and it is one of the easiest strains for a first grow.
Strain names are not protected, so a Northern Lights from another seed bank is a different cut. Everything on this page describes our own seeds.
How Northern Lights grows
Plants grow to a medium height with tight internodes, a thick main cola and very little stretch after the switch to 12/12, so they suit tents and small spaces. It is a non-fussy feeder that tolerates beginner mistakes. Indoors it flowers in just 7 to 8 weeks, one of the fastest photoperiod strains we sell, with up to 350 g/m² under good light.
Outdoors it is ready from late September to early October, which makes it one of the safest choices for Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes: it finishes before most of the fall rain. Expect up to 450 g per plant in full sun and decent soil. The buds are dense, so keep humidity down and airflow up in the last two weeks; one Ontario grower reported bud rot in a wet fall.
Germinate with the paper-towel method and store seeds cool and dry. If a seed does not come up, contact us with your order number and we will replace it.
Taste, aroma and effect
The aroma is earthy pine with a sweet, slightly spicy note — mild in the grow room, which discreet growers appreciate. The smoke is smooth, with the same pine and earth on the exhale. The effect is relaxing and calm: a gentle lift, then a heavy, comfortable body feeling that makes it a classic evening and bedtime strain. At 15% THC or more it is approachable for people who find modern 25%+ strains too much.
