QC Purple Thai is one of our own strains, bred by Quebec Cannabis Seeds from a lineage that traces back to the classic pairing of Chocolate Thai and Highland Oaxacan Gold — two of the great sativa landrace lines of the 1970s, the one from Thailand with its chocolate-coffee flavour, the other from the mountains of Oaxaca with its gold colour and purple tints in a cool finish. It is sativa dominant, tests at 20 to 24% THC, and carries the hybrid vigour of a cross between two unrelated landraces. It is a newer release and does not yet have customer reviews, so the figures below come from our own grows rather than from reviewers. It is not a beginner strain and we do not badge it as one: it is for the grower who wants a true long-flowering sativa and has the patience and the climate for it. How QC Purple Thai grows
It is a photoperiod strain with a long flowering time — typically 10 to 14 weeks indoors — which reflects its tropical background, and it grows the way a Thai does: tall, stretchy and open, with long thin leaves and airy buds that resist mould better than a dense indica. Indoors, top it early, flip to 12/12 while it is still small (it can triple in height), net it, and give it a long, moderate feed; yields are moderate to high depending on the environment. Outdoors it does best in warm climates and finishes late in the season — in most of Quebec that means a greenhouse, a south wall, or accepting a late-October harvest cut short by frost; in a long warm autumn it gives high yields. For a Canadian garden, start it indoors in March, put it out in June in the sunniest spot you have, and cover it on cold October nights. The purple appears in the last weeks when nights are cool.
