These figures are ranges, not promises. Flowering time, harvest date and yield vary depending on growing conditions: the grower, the method and the season's weather. "Mold resistant" means mold tolerant: less prone to mold and slower to be affected. No strain is 100% mold resistant. How we set these numbers →

About Acapulco Gold

Genetics & strain profile

Acapulco Gold is one of the legends of cannabis: a landrace sativa from the Pacific coast of Mexico that became famous in the 1960s and 1970s for its golden buds and clear, social high. Our feminized version is 80% sativa with 19 to 24% THC and low CBD. Reviewers who smoked it back then say it is still the same experience — one grower in Vermont had not seen the strain since the 1980s and grew it for the nostalgia. We also wrote a full Acapulco Gold strain review. It is not the easiest strain in our catalogue, and the reviews are candid about it: an average of 3.7 out of 5, with germination and climate the two things that separate the happy growers from the disappointed ones.

How Acapulco Gold grows

This is a long-flowering sativa: indoors it usually needs 10 to 11 weeks and can yield 450 to 500 g/m² under ideal conditions. Outdoors it finishes late, by mid to late October, with over 500 g per plant in a warm, sunny spot. That late finish is the catch in Canada. Growers in eastern Ontario, northern New Brunswick and Vermont reported excellent results — “not very tall but very bushy”, “6 jars of dried bud from a 5-foot plant”, “no issues at all” — all of them in full sun, in large pots or well-drained ground. A central Ontario grower in a cooler, wetter spot got a very low yield and concluded it wants a drier climate. Give it your sunniest location, start early indoors, and consider a greenhouse if your autumn is short. Some reviewers found it harder to germinate than our other strains; use the paper-towel method, keep it warm, and contact us if a pack underperforms.

Taste, aroma and effect

The flavour is sweet citrus with earthy notes, pine, spice and wood; one grower noted it is not a loud plant in the garden, which is handy with neighbours. The effect is what made it famous: mostly cerebral, uplifting and social, with a mild ease in the body that never turns heavy or sleepy. Reviewers call it “great for socializing with friends, an uplifting buzz with no paranoia” and “a mood enhancer — everyone gets social on it”. It is a daytime strain through and through. For a sativa that finishes earlier in a Canadian season, look at Pure Power Plant.

Very disappointed. Only 1 seed germinated out of 5. I use the classic wet paper towel in a baggie technique.
I’ve had duds before but this is bad.

Love this strand. I live in eastern Ontario and grow it outside in a sunny area in a large pot. A bit harder to germinate sometimes but worth it! Great for socializing with friends, uplifting buzz with no paranoia effects.

Little disappointed, the seeds I bought Gorrilla Glue all came up one inch and died, I wanted to tell my seed bank, but know one is answering me, I tried 3 times to talk to them about this, but never an answer..
I love this seed bank,
Had it only been one set of seeds I’d be ok with that because I believe you got to take the good with the bad and let it go, but when it happens twice, it’s caused me to loose my growing timing.
They always said they would replace bad seeds, yell I guess not for me..
When I started with this amazing seed bank, they were there ready to talk to you, now I can’t get anyone to help me..

Regardless I’m loyal to this seed bank, and just got some cherry pie..
Your staff has always been so incredible, and all I can say isn’t loyalty supposed to work both ways..

Again regardless, I’ll stay a loyal customer..
Just wish this didn’t happen..
Still I say thank you to all the staff, thank you so much for all the amazing grows since with your seed bank..

Hello, this was the first time I have ever grown Acapulco Gold as I have not seen this strain since 1980ś , also its a tropical strain and I live in Vermont and the summers here are far from tropical. I figured I would try it, what's the worst that could happen {Die} ?? To my amazement it has thrived, its not tall but super bushy with the largest stalk I have ever seen in all my years of growing. Its definitely a late bloomer as its the end of September and only now the buds are really starting to take off. Thanks Guys

This was a great plant to grow. No issues at all. I got 6 jars of dried bud from a 5-foot-tall plant. Not much smell from this plant but I was impressed with the healthy green colour. The effects of this strain seem to have a bit of a Haze feel to me. I expected way more energy from this one but I haven't found that effect yet.

It might be better in a drier climate cause i tried in central Ontario and they did NOT do well. Vary low yield.

This one plant is massive, at least 10 feet, and is about 3-4 weeks into flowering. It’s in the ground, as opposed to another plant from the same seeds is 6 feet, and grown outdoors in a garbage can size container. Nodes are far apart. Definitely a sativa dominant plant this one. Hope it finishes here in Ottawa.
