Growing outdoors near Ottawa
The typical last spring frost in Ottawa is around May 6 and the typical first fall frost is around October 5, which leaves about 152 frost-free days (roughly 21 weeks). These are averages: frost can come earlier or later, and your garden or balcony may be warmer or colder than the city figure.
Ottawa has hot, humid summers and early cold snaps in autumn. The window is long enough for most autoflowers, but humid September nights raise the risk of mold, so aim to finish well before the first frost.
Autoflowers listed at about 10 weeks from seed to harvest fit this window with about 11 weeks to spare. A good starting point is to plant out in mid-May, after the last frost. Always check each strain page for its listed time to harvest. Read the full reasoning in our guide to autoflower seeds for the North American climate and the short-season outdoor guide.
