These figures are ranges, not promises. Flowering time, harvest date and yield vary depending on growing conditions: the grower, the method and the season's weather. "Mold resistant" means mold tolerant: less prone to mold and slower to be affected. No strain is 100% mold resistant. How we set these numbers →

About Chemdawg

Genetics & strain profile

Chemdawg is one of the most influential strains in modern cannabis: it is said to be the parent of OG Kush and Sour Diesel, and almost every “gas” strain traces back to it. Its true lineage is uncertain — the usual story is a bag of seeds from a Grateful Dead show in 1991, and many believe it is a cross of Thai and Nepalese sativas. Our feminized Chemdawg is one of our QCS Originals, with a balanced to slightly sativa-dominant profile and 20% THC. Three reviews average 4 out of 5, and two of them say the same thing in different words: “this plant is a beast” and “a very good outdoor plant” with an “insane smell”.

How Chemdawg grows

The plants are medium to tall with a bushy stature and strong side branching, so give them room or top them early. Flowering takes around 9 to 10 weeks, with about 500 to 800 g/m² indoors in good conditions — the upper end comes from a long veg and a full canopy. Outdoors, harvest usually falls around mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere, which works for southern Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes in a normal year; the reviewer who called it a beast grew it outdoors and recommended that as the best way to grow it. It is a vigorous, forgiving plant, but the smell in flower is strong — plan carbon filtration indoors and some distance from the neighbours outdoors. One public grow diary on GrowDiaries documents it in a Canadian garden.

Taste, aroma and effect

The aroma is the pungent, fuel-like chemical funk that gave Chemdawg its name and that it passed on to Sour Diesel — “insane smell”, in one grower’s words — with earthy and piney notes behind it and a sharp, diesel flavour on the exhale. The effect shows both sides of its family: cerebral stimulation first, clear and creative, then a steady physical relaxation that keeps it from being racy. At 20% THC it is strong enough for experienced users without being extreme. For its famous offspring, see Godfather OG and NYC Diesel.
