These figures are ranges, not promises. Flowering time, harvest date and yield vary depending on growing conditions: the grower, the method and the season's weather. "Mold resistant" means mold tolerant: less prone to mold and slower to be affected. No strain is 100% mold resistant. How we set these numbers →
Taste & Aroma Profile

The aroma is pungent diesel fuel with sour citrus and a skunky base — strong enough that one grower compared it to pure hash oil, so plan on a carbon filter indoors.
About Sour Diesel
Genetics & strain profile
Sour Diesel — “Sour D” — appeared on the New York scene in the early 1990s and became the defining East Coast sativa. It comes from the cross of Chemdawg 91 and Super Skunk, with its unmistakable fuel smell inherited from the Chemdawg side. Our Sour Diesel feminized seeds are our own cut of that lineage: a sativa-dominant hybrid with 22% THC and about 1% CBD, selected for the classic gas aroma, the energetic high and resilient genetics that stand up to Canadian pests and mould.
Strain names are not protected, so a Sour Diesel from another seed bank is a different plant. Everything on this page describes our own seeds.
How Sour Diesel grows
We rate Sour Diesel moderate, mostly because of its size. It is a true sativa in structure: tall, long internodes, thin leaves and a strong stretch after the switch to flowering. Top it early, flip sooner than you think, and use a ScrOG net or trellis indoors. It flowers in 8 to 9 weeks and yields 400 to 500 g/m² with good light and a steady feed. Its resilient genetics resist common pests and mould.
Outdoors it is typically ready from September to October depending on your latitude, with 400 to 550 g per plant in optimal conditions. Canadian growers on this page report plants from 8 to 12 feet tall with thick stems, easy-to-trim colas and 100% germination in most packs — one put seedlings in the ground on June 13 and harvested October 30. Stake or cage the plants early, and in a cold, wet fall watch the colas closely in the last two weeks.
Taste, aroma and effect
The aroma is pungent diesel fuel with sour citrus and a skunky base — strong enough that one grower compared it to pure hash oil, so plan on a carbon filter indoors. The smoke is sharp and sour on the inhale with an earthy, chemical finish. The effect is high-energy: creative, energetic and uplifting, with only light relaxation in the body. It is a daytime strain and a poor choice right before bed; the fast cerebral onset can feel racy for anxious users, so start small.

Very good strain, all seeds germinated! Keep a close eye on them at the end of the season as mold could be an issue in colder climates. Very nice large buds.

All of the seeds germinated. I used the (Quebec Canabis Seeds) recommended gemination technique. I did modify the technique a bit by placing the potted seeds outside during the day and bringing them in at night. Since May 22 they are outside in ground. I grew this strain a few years ago and it is by far the most enjoyed by my close friends.
